#360 Puppet Nativity

Acquired 2003

Puppet figures dressed to represent the nativity became popular in Hungary and Poland in the mid-18th century. Carolers would carry portable theaters from house to house on Christmas Eve as a wonderful way to teach the Christmas story to others. The puppets in this set have hand-painted wooden faces and brightly colored fabric costumes. Each figure is approximately 11” high and all are on wooden dowels. It comes with wooden bases for display. It was made in Poland. I purchased it from Shaker Workshop in November 2003. Purchase price $125.00.
