#674 Black Raku Nativity

Acquired 2014

Another stunning depiction of the nativity is this extraordinary artwork creation through the process of Raku pottery making. The talented artist is Margo Mandette, born in France. She was in a special French art school at age 13 and came to America at age 19. She has lived in Arizona and now has settled in Jerome, AZ, with her artist husband. They have an Art Gallery in Jerome where they each display their work of over 25 years. This 11-piece nativity embodies the black firing. The iridescent coloring is accomplished by taping off those parts in the firing process. The set includes the backdrop stable, an angel, the Holy Family, three kings, two shepherds with their sheep. An elegant set of unique style, I found the set at the Chapel of the Holy Cross, Sedona, AZ. Purchased February 2014, $625.00.
