#916 Star Studded Puerto Rico

Acquired 2023

Our son, Mark, had just visited our niece, Trena Jones, here in Modesto. She said she has had this piece about three years when she and her two sisters went on a cruise. One of their stops was in Puerto Rico and her, sister, Teresa Cook (also our niece), who lives in West Virginia, saw this nativity, and wanted to gift it to me for our collection. She gave it to Trena to deliver to me. It is three years later, and Trena finally remembered to deliver it to me through Mark! The clay piece, about 6” tall, includes Mary and Joseph watching over Baby Jesus with a lamb and a chicken looking on. The parrot at the top of the piece represents the typical angel that is often used in a creche setting. It is labeled Puerto Rico on the base of the piece. What makes it different is the American flag design as the blanket covering the Christ Child. Another flag design is a plaque above the opening of the stable area. As a territory of the United States, this piece reflects the respect of the Puerto Rican people to our country. Purchased by Teresa in 2020, I received the set, February 2023.
