#737 Small Retablo from Peru

Acquired 2015

I met a special friend, Sue Parker from Incline Village, NV, at the FOTC Convention in Houston, TX, this last October. We enjoyed visiting together and found we had many things in common - besides the love of nativity collecting. She has over 100 sets herself and displays them at Christmas time as I do. She mentioned she would be traveling to the Bay Area during the dates of our Open House and planned to come. Weather didn't allow her to travel during the four days of the Open House, but we did set an appointment for the following Saturday for her to come by.We had a lovely visit, enjoyed lunch together, we toured our nativity collection, and as she left, she gifted to me this wonderful Peruvian Nativity Retablo. She and her husband travel extensively for pleasure and for his occupation. Much of the time his work takes him to South American countries. She said she purchased this lovely white church style retablo while in Peru probably ten or eleven years ago. She had no idea that I just added the “mashed potato” retablo to my collection. This Peruvian retablo complements the larger piece. Sue's smaller retablo embraces two shepherds, and ox, donkey, lamb and Mary, Joseph, and Baby Jesus within the walls of the piece.Thank you, Sue, for sharing with me such a special piece from your own collection!
