#69 Puerto Rico Set

Acquired 1992

Janine and Joe purchased this set for me on our summer family cruise in August 1992, in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. They found an arts and crafts shop that featured many different native nativities all made by local craftsmen. Most of their sets featured the three kings in that the kings to their people represent the spirit of giving as Santa Claus does for us. This colored clay formed set includes Mary, Joseph, the Baby, and the three kings. It is very different in the molding process. None of the six pieces have faces on them. My set was crafted by Ivelisse Alemany.Janine told me about this shop that I missed seeing and insisted that she didn't pick up a set for me. When I found a bag that she wouldn't let me look at, I figured it was a nativity set! So, from August to December 25th, we had much fun teasing back and forth about the nativity set that she didn't buy for me! What a surprise to find out my “suspicion” was correct!
